parc zoologique

They have an African safari park/zoo quite close to our house and we decided to get annual tickets. It's great. There is a drive-through safari area with lots of African plains animals - zebras, ostriches, wildebeasts, etc. - that can come right up to the car. There are also rhinos and lions, although they are caged off from the road. The zoo area that you can walk around has lots of animals as well. It's very nice and there is a great picnic and play area too. They have a sea lion show and a bird show. Alister loves animals and it's a fantastic way to spend an afternoon.

The French are pretty casual about safety rules and their animal protection laws aren't the best but it's not too bad at this zoo. However, the big cats seem to be a bit close for my liking. This is all that keeps you apart from man-eating beasts - a couple of wire fences.

Alister was playing with the stones on the path and this tiger totally stalked him. It slinked over and crouched down, looking ready to pounce. I took a quick photo and ran away. (Yes, I took Alister with me!)

With all of the animals in the world to choose from, guess which one Alister most wanted to see?

He did a couple of cute impressions -

Chimpanzee

Flamingo
